Fans of the long-revered, recently departed Gyro Wrap who have despaired about the lack of pita-encased delights available in downtown Athens can now breathe a little easier.
The iconic Gyro Wrap closed last summer after some 40 years in business, but a new emporium – Munch Hut Deli & Store – has opened its doors in Gyro Wrap’s old home on East Broad Street, and showcased on the menu of sandwiches, bowls and salads is the beloved gyro.
“I had to bring the gyros back because it is my honor to take over what used to be Gyro Wrap and that food is from my home – it’s the food of my people and it’s sentimental for the place,” said Munch Hut owner Felix Ahmed, who is known on a first-name basis to customers.
