The Dindoshi police have arrested a 47-year-old man who was wanted for the 1992 Mumbai riots. He was living under a false identity for all almost 18 years after he was declared wanted by the sessions court in 2004. He was arrested from the Dindoshi bus depot area after the police received a tip-off on Saturday.
Lawyer-activist Shakil Ahmed has spent three decades helping Bombay riot victims go to court – and believes the courts are sending victims back 'empty-handed'.
The Court, however, said that it is too late to reopen the discharge/ acquittal of nine erring police officials against whom cases had been registered.
The petitioner argued that the compensation of ₹2 lakhs was severely inadequate particularly in light of its delayed payment and urged the court to reconsider this aspect.
