Former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh
MUMBAI: The state government has ordered a ‘preliminary inquiry’ into corruption allegations against former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh.
The home department, in an order dated April 20, has asked DGP Sanjay Pandey to conduct the ‘inquiry’ into a complaint by assistant police inspector Anup Dange on February 2. The order became available on Tuesday.
Dange, suspended last July for allegedly naming a person in an FIR without sufficient grounds, alleged Singh’s aide had demanded Rs 2 crore to revoke his suspension. In a letter to the additional chief secretary (home), he further claimed Singh had tried to protect people with underworld links when he was DG of ACB. Singh has denied the claims. Dange was reinstated last month. TNN & PTI
