Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corp (KDMC) has become the second municipal corporation in Maharashtra to provide COVID vaccine jabs to people disabled due to leprosy. BrihanMumbai Municipal Corp (BMC) was the first to offer COVID vaccine to leprosy patients.
Last month, BMC started vaccination for leprosy patients at its Acworth Municipal Hospital in Wadala. According to a senior healthcare professional, till date the vaccination centre has provided COVID vaccine to 47 destitute, and disabled leprosy patients.
He says, A team of three doctors, one medical social worker, and one paramedic staff started the process of enrolling eligible leprosy patients, who had the required documents on 1 March 2021 and within few days we enrolled 33 patients.

In a major decision, the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday issued a global tender to acquire 1 crore vaccines, an official said.
The bids were issued after Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray cleared a proposal, said BMC Commissioner I.S. Chahal.
The BMC has issued global bid to acquire 1 crore Covid-19 vaccines to inoculate the citizens of Mumbai at the earliest possible on a massive scale in its decisive fight against the virus, he said.
Chahal added that the BMC is resolved to make all possible efforts in future also to acquire sufficient quantity of Covid-19 vaccines to vaccinate all eligible citizens of Mumbai on war footing in the next 60-90 days.

Paying heed to agitating resident doctors in four medical colleges, the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) or Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has decided to release their stipend arrears since May 2020. A senior official from the BMC said that order have been issued as per the desire (of resident doctors) and the issue now stands resolved.
In a circular issued on 7 May 2021, Dr Mohan Joshi, dean of Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and General Hospital (LTMGH), says, .the regular monthly stipend of resident doctors in municipal medical and dental colleges is increased by Rs10,000 from 1 May 2020. This is besides the increment given to resident doctors during COVID pandemic.
