The COVID-19 case positivity rate in Mumbai, Maharashtra, dropped to 4.84 per cent today below the five per cent mark for the time in over two months as the city recorded 1,425 new COVID-19 cases.
Mumbai recorded 59 new deaths due to Covid, taking the overall death count to 14,468. The total case count in the city stands at 6,93,664.
This was the second day in a row when Mumbai witnessed a spike in COVID-19 cases after reporting a three-digit infection count (953) on May 18. On Wednesday, the city had registered 1,350 cases and 57 deaths.

Earlier in the day, Dr Shashank Joshi, a member of the Maharashtra government s COVID-19 task force, said Mumbai may have turned the corner in its fight against the pandemic.

Mumbai: Mumbai reported 3,876 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, the lowest daily count since March 30, while 70 more patients succumbed to the infection, the city civic body said.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s updated data, with the addition of 3,876 cases, the COVID-19 tally increased to 6,31,527, while the death toll jumped to 12,853.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale has instructed personnel working in the field to wear double masks and face shields to protect themselves from the COVID-19 infection, an official said on Tuesday.
The top cop s instructions have come in the light of police checkpoints set up across the city to crackdown on unnecessary movement of people amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Deputy Commissioner of Police (operation) S Chaitanya said.
The police have been monitoring the movement of vehicles and people at many places, including the exit and entry points of the city, to ensure strict implementation of the COVID-19 curbs, the official said.
