News: Police transfers Mohammed Deksiso to undisclosed location By Siyanne Mekonnen Addis Abeba, May 20, 2021- The brother of Jimma University graduate Mohammed Deksiso, Sultan Deksiso told Addis Standard that Mohammed was brought to Addis Abeba after weeks of being detained without his family knowing his whereabouts. Sultan said “ We don’t know his where he is taken.” Mohammed was arrested after calling out ‘Free Jawar Mohammed, Justice for Hachalu Hundessa’ at a graduation ceremony of Jimma University in February. He was arrested alongside Mulugeta Shitee and University staffer Wondimu Legesse Abba Dafar (PhD). After facing accusations of ‘inciting violence and being affiliated with an armed group, the three were granted bail by the end of February. The court  closed the file for lack of sufficient evidence and ordered their release. News: Senior staffers at Jimma University accused of coup attempt, Graduate student remains missing By Siyanne Mekonnen Addis Abeba, April 8, 2021 – Ten staffers of Jimma university were arrested this weekend on the grounds of attempting a coup and supporting the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA). Eight of the lecturers were arrested on April 2, 2021 while the remaining two were arrested on  April 4th and 5th according to lawyer Obsinan Grima. The team of jimma university staffers including administrators such as the dean, deputy dean of students, academics such as the former vice president of the university as well as lecturers including an associate professor at the department of Surgery made their first appearance in court on April 5, 2021.

News: Police in Jimma defy court bail, transfer Uni. graduate, two others to separate police station. Rights Commission calls for their immediate release By Siyanne Mekonnen Addis Abeba, February 24/2021 – The police in Jimma city, Oromia regional state, defied court order to release on bail Jimma university graduate Mohammed Deksiso and two staffers of the university and transferred them to a different police station to which the court’s order for bail wasn’t addressed to, a source with knowledge about the matter told Addis Standard. Mohammed Deksiso was arrested on February 14 shortly after calling out ‘Free Jawar Mohammed, Justice for Hachalu Hundessa’ at a graduation ceremony of Jimma University, which was being attended by, among others, Shimelis Andissa, President of Oromia regional state, and Chief Justice Meaza Ashenafi.
