Joburg Council gives Informal Trading Policy the green light

It is official. The City of Johannesburg now has a brand-new Informal Trading Policy ready for implementation. This follows the approval of the policy by the council on Tuesday 26 April 2022. The policy, which has been in the making since 2018, was first endorsed by the Economic Development Section 79 Oversight Committee to be tabled at the ordinary sitting of Council. The policy was subsequently adopted by council and officially becomes law, paving the way for an organised informal trade sector within the City.

Joburg Multi-Party Government takes further steps towards strengthening service delivery and management of the City

In a deliberate effort to strengthen the management of the City of Johannesburg and service delivery programmes, the Council, on receipt of a report from the Multi-Party Government’s Mayoral Committee, passed a resolution that authorised the Executive Mayor to place the Acting City Manager, Mr Floyd Brink, on special leave. This was done in order to give an independent investigator the space to investigate allegations of misconduct as expressed by an ENS investigation into non-compliance with procurement processes for portable handheld communication devices and CCTV equipment for the Public Safety Department.
