Royal Navy veteran from Loughton received France s highest honour five years ago this week

Victor Walker received the honour in 2015 A veteran of two vital Second World War operations has said receiving France’s highest honour should ‘remind others of the thousands of young men who did not return home’. Victor Walker, 90, from Loughton, served in the Royal Navy both during the Normandy landings of D-Day and in the Arctic Convoys, delivering essential supplies to the besieged USSR. One-and-a-half years after the 70th anniversary of D-Day, Mr Walker has received the Legion of Honour for his “steadfast involvement in the liberation of France during the Second World War .
