This former Bollywood actress turned Hollywood film producer and entrepreneur is literally exploding onto the scene with films such as the cutting-edge comedy/reality-check, Blowing Up Right Now to the uplifting holiday fare, A New Christmas. “My years as an actress is a lot of what I am today,” stated Shah about her time in Bollywood. Her leap to Hollywood was in part due to the unique opportunities for independent filmmakers. In 2012, she co-founded Mulberry Films, headquartered in Los Angeles and Mumbai, which focuses on bestselling books for film and television adaptation. Shah consciously picks books based on true-life events and with real heroes that can resonate broadly across global audiences.

Mulberry Films, a film and television production company based in Los Angeles, Calif., whose managing director is Indian American Rashaana Shah, has acquired multiple bestselling books for film and television adaption. Shah said in a statement: “We want to dwell in true stories of real heroes that resonate with global audiences.” One of their projects, “Nanda Devi,” is a film on the Uttarakhand glacier tragedy and is based on “Spies in the Himalayas: Secret Missions and Perilous Climbs,” authored by legendary Indian mountaineer M.S. Kohli, who conquered Mount Everest. “Nanda Devi” was recently in the headlines because of the tragic glacier burst in Uttarakhand, which resulted in the deaths of more than 50 people.

New York: Seven Indian pioneering women, including frontline healthcare personnel, were honoured here on the occasion of International Women’s Day for their dedicated service, as India’s Consul General in New York Randhir Jaiswal underscored that women empowerment is a key component of socio-economic development in the world. The Federation of Indian Associations of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut (FIA), along with the Brooklyn Borough President’s Office and the Consulate General of India, New York hosted a commemorative ceremony at the Brooklyn Borough Hall on the occasion of International Women’s Day on Monday, FIA said in a statement.
