In January 2024, Airtel gained more active mobile users than Jio, adding 3.55 million compared to Jio s 1.1 million. However, Jio attracted more high-paying 4G and 5G users than Airtel during the same period. Vodafone Idea (Vi) continued to lose both active mobile users and 3G/4G users.
Reliance Jio has reportedly exceeded 100 million 5G subscribers by the end of March, with Bharti Airtel close behind at nearly 75 million. Ookla, a network testing and analytics firm, highlighted Jio and Airtel as key drivers of 5G in India, commending their efforts in rapidly expanding coverage nationwide.
