Armenian court sentences two Syrian mercenaries to life in prison
A court in Armenia’s southern Syunik Province on Tuesday handed life sentences to two Syrian mercenaries who were captured while fighting against Artsakh on Azerbaijan’s side during last year’s war, spokeswoman of the Prosecutor General’s Office Arevik Khachatryan told Panorama.am.
Syrian nationals Muhrab Muhammad al-Shkheri and Youssef Alabet al-Haji were found guilty on several charges, including terrorism and violations of international humanitarian law.
They were particularly charged under Article 217 (Part 3, Clause 1, terrorism committed by an organized group), Article 389 (international terrorism), Article 390 (Part 1, Clause 1, serious breach of international humanitarian law during armed conflicts, murder), Article 390 (Part 3, Clause 1, assault on civilian population or individual civilians) and Article 395 (Part 3, the participation of a mercenary in armed conflicts or military operations).

Armenia’s Prosecutor General Declared 30 Mercenaries Wanted
A criminal indictment of two mercenaries captured and deposed during last fall’s war has been sent to a court in the Syunik Province, where the defendants will face trial for their role in fighting alongside Azerbaijani forces in their aggressive war against Artsakh.
The two defendants, Muhrab Muhammad al-Shkheri and Yousef Alabet al-Hajji, were charged with war crimes, according Arevik Khachatryan, a spokesperson for Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s office, who told Armenpress on Tuesday that similar cases are pending against 30 other mercenaries, who were sent to the Karabakh conflict zone by Turkey.
