Climate change fuelling insurgency, armed conflict – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari President Muhammadu Buhari, has lamented lamented the adverse effects of climate change across the globe, particularly in the Lake Chad Basin. Buhari stated this at the high-level meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council (AU-PSC) on securing sustainable peace in Africa. He  said across the world, climate change has contributed to rising insurgency and armed conflict, partly in response to emerging challenges with resultant displacement of persons and livelihood. Represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, Buhari said the situation in the Lake Chad Basin was a notable example of the risk and effects associated with climate change.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and President Muhammadu Buhari President Muhammadu Buhari, in a birthday tribute, has described Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as “a reliable and dedicated deputy who is admirably competent”. He also said the Vice-President exudes confidence and passion in the performance of his job. President Buhari poured the encomiums on Osinbajo in a message to celebrate the Vice President on his 64th birthday Monday 8 March. “I’m proud to have selected Osinbajo as my running mate and he has given a good account of himself since our journey began in 2015,” Buhari said. According to the President, “the Vice President is a cool-headed gentleman who puts the interest of Nigeria above other narrow considerations.”

Buhari, Osinbajo receive COVID-19 vaccines

President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo were on Saturday vaccinated against COVID-19. Buhari was vaccinated by his personal physician, Dr. Suhayb Sanusi, at about 11.51am at a brief ceremony witnessed by top government officials at the New Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Shortly after the President, Osinbajo was also vaccinated by his personal physician, Dr. Nicholas Audifferen, at about 11.57am. The President and his deputy were the first among the nation’s strategic leaders to take the vaccine after some frontline health workers at the treatment centre of the National Hospital, Abuja, were vaccinated on Friday. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control had early on Friday cleared the 3.924m doses of AstraZeneca vaccine which arrived Nigeria on Tuesday for usage in the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigeria is witnessing a rise in threats posed by cybercriminals, online financial fraudsters, and cyber terrorists. Buhari appoints New CGs for NSCDC, NCS

President Muhammadu Buhari PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the new commandant-general, CG, of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC. Rauf Aregbesola, minister of interior, who made the announcement Thursday, February 18, added that the appointment followed the retirement of Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, former CG, in January. Also, Aregbesola said the president has appointed Haliru Nababa as the new controller general, CG, of the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCS. Mohammed Manga, director of Press, ministry of Interior  made this known in a statement, saying that Audi, emerged the top best candidate out of those that went through the transparent selection process initiated by the ministry.
