Good afternoon everyone, im maria medina. A brush fire is burning on the side of highway 880 in hayward. The charred brush backed top a sound wall protecting a neighborhood on the other side. Flakes broke out an awe hog for flames broke out an hour ago. For a while you can see the flames climbing up to the top of the trees. Only two lanes are open on the southbound side of the freeway. Its causing a major traffic backup. You can see cars bumper to bumper for miles as they funnel down to two lanes and taking a live look from chopper 5, for the most part firefighters have knocked down the flames and spraying down the charred brush. And earlier this morning, a homeless encampment went up in flames in san jose next to a busy highway. The plume of black smoke could be seen for miles. That started near 101 near mckey road.
