  The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission has revealed that it is considering relocating some of its units from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to Lagos State.   This was seen in a memorandum issued by the commission, titled ‘Movement To Lagos,’ signed by Dr Kelechi Onyeakachi Ofoegbu, Executive Commissioner, Corporate Services & Administration, dated February 14, 2024 and obtained by SaharaReporters on Thursday morning.

  At least 1500 members of staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria will on Friday resume at its Lagos office following their redeployment from the headquarters. SaharaReporters had on Monday reported that the President Bola Tinubu’s government insisted that the relocation of some departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) corporate headquarters from Abuja to Lagos State would improve efficiency and save costs.

President Bola Tinubu’s government has insisted that the relocation of some departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) corporate headquarters from Abuja to Lagos State will improve efficiency and save costs.   This was stated in a press statement issued by Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation on Sunday, urging Nigerians to disregard any narratives stating that the decision was taken for political reasons and to favour a particular region over others.

Ahmed Maiyaki, a former spokesman for the Kaduna State Government has said that those speaking against President Tinubu’s approval for the relocation of the headquarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and some Central Bank of Nigeria departments from Abuja to Lagos are doing that for selfish reasons.   He said the condemnation of the move was for their interests and not for the common people from the northern part of the country.   Mr Maiyaki said this during a live programme on Arise News TV monitored by SaharaReporters on Friday.
