The Department of Rural Roads (DRR) plans to spend almost 2 billion baht buying land for a new road to reduce traffic congestion around Suvarnabhumi Airport.
DRR director-general Pathom Chaloeywares said on Wednesday his department had proposed a series of public hearings involving various agencies and local communities and most of those affected were in favour.
He said the DRR was already preparing a draft decree on land expropriation to pave the way for the construction of the new 19km road.
Mr Pathom estimated it would cost 1.9 billion baht to buy the 547 rai (87.5 ha) of land needed for the project. The road, which will have six lanes, will link Ruam Pattana Road to Highway No 34 at the 23rd-kilometre marker, opposite the Mueang Mai Bang Phli road.
