ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Accountability Mirza Shahzad Akbar on Thursday announced that the government had retrieved 22 “illegal” properties wroth over Rs200 billion owned by opposition leaders, mostly belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
“The Qabza mafia (land grabbers) benefiting former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members have also been arrested,” Mr Akbar said while speaking at a press conference here.
“The Sharifs have been deprived of monetary benefits they were taking from the Qabza mafia,” the adviser said.
GUJRANWALA: PML-N leader Mudassar Qayyum Nahra, who was arrested in a land grab case, was released from central jail after the confirmation of his bail.
The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) had registered a case against the former MNA, his brothers MNA Azhar Qayyum Nahra and former district council chairman Mazhar Qayyum Nahra, their father Sultan Nahra, Sanaullah, Zakaullah, patwaris Aarif and Shafique on charges of grabbing 267 kanals of state land.
An ACE team had arrested Mudassar on Dec 18 and sent him to central jail.
On Wednesday, hundreds of PML-N workers had gathered outside the jail to welcome him after being released on bail. A heavy contingent of police was deployed outside the premises.

LAHORE: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) arrested former PML-N MNA Mudassar Nahra in a land grabbing case on Friday.
An ACE team along with a heavy contingent of police arrested Nahra from his residence for illegally occupying over 267 Kanal state land in Noshera Virkan. In a reference, the Gujranwala DC had requested the ACE DG to initiate criminal proceedings against 15 people, including Sultan Nahra, Mudassar Nahra, his brother and sitting MNA Azhar Nahra and officers of the revenue department for illegally occupying and cultivating state land. He said penal rent amounting to Rs24,050,574 should also be recovered from the Nahra family for illegally occupying and cultivating state land.
