Axe-wielding man s £700 taxi fare to get his dog back from police

AN AXE-wielding man spent £700 on taxi fares to retrieve his beloved dog from police kennels in Manchester, a court has heard. A witness reported hearing Adrian Whittingham, who pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon and three charges of criminal damage, screaming and shouting at a neighbour to come out and face me in the street outside his house at around 8.30pm on January 26. He was pacing backwards and forwards, prosecutor Ralph Robyns Landricombe said. The court heard Whittingham had then sat on the bonnet of a neighbour s car, but, when the witness looked again 20 minutes later, he was standing in the street again holding an axe, which he swung at the rear window of a parked car.

Herefordshire volunteers rally to help deliver coronavirus vaccine

With the recent winter weather proving challenging, it has meant that volunteers have had to work through the cold, rain and icy conditions, ensuring they follow social distancing guidelines as well as safely helping the most vulnerable in the community who arrive for their vaccinations. Volunteer support services co-ordinator Richard Williams is responsible for pulling together the complex rotas which have been taking place since last month. He said: “I have a pool of over 75 active volunteers and ensure that all of them take part in one or more shifts. “My scheduling allows for around 25 hours per vaccine rollout and there are three volunteer support teams, each having two volunteers per shift, plus an onsite co-ordinator who covers all teams for rest periods and comfort breaks.”

Robbie David Jones admitted the offence when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford on January 6. The 25-year-old had been driving a Seat Ibiza on Commercial Road in Hereford at 2.30am on July 26 when he was stopped by police who had spotted he had a defective light, prosecutor MArk Hambling said. Jones was arrested after failing a roadside drug test and was taken into custody, where an evidential blood test revealed he had 57 microgrammes of cocaine metabolite benzoylecgonine in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 50.
