Several residents of the Muslim-majority district in Ladakh say they want to convey their anger at decisions of August 5, 2019 through the hill council poll.
This year, there are 85 candidates in the fray for the 26 constituencies, the voting for which will be conducted through EVMs – in a first for the council elections.

JAMMU, Jan 18: Series of activities were held across Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to mark the beginning of National Road Safety Month.
The day witnessed inaugural functions, walkathons and awareness rallies organized by respective district administrations.
JAMMU: The 32nd National Road Safety Month was today inaugurated by Transport Commissioner, J&K Pardeep Kumar, with the flagging off a Walkathon-cum-Awareness Rally, here at Gulshan Ground.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Jammu, Shiv Kumar Sharma was the guest of honour on the occasion.

KARGIL Jan 2: General Manager, National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) Ladakh, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Government of India (GoI) Bipin Kumar Chand called on the Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan at Council Secretariat here today.
Executive Councillor for Works, Mubarak Shah Nagvi, Executive Councilor for Zanskar Affairs Er Phunsog Tashi besides other concerned officers were present during the meeting.
General Manager, NHIDCL informed the CEC that blasting work is in progress at the Zojila Tunnel despite sub zero temperature at the site. He also informed that the draft DPRs regarding the Shinkula Tunnel has been submitted to the higher authorities with the aim of starting work on ground in the month of May-June 2021.

Executive Councillor (EC) for Cooperatives Aga Syed Mujtaba Mosavi, EC for Works Mubarak Shah Nagvi, EC for Rural Development and Zanskar Affairs Phunsog Tashi, EC for Health Muhammad Ali Chandan, Chief Executive Officer Kargil Development Authority (KDA) Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani, Divisional Forest Officer Sajid Sultan, Assistant Commissioner Development Ghulam Muhammad, Executive Engineers of R&B, PHE, I&FC, SVD Sankoo, KDA and Mechanical Division Kargil and officers of other departments were present in the meeting.
