NAKHON PHANOM: An army corporal accused of shooting dead a private at the entrance of an arm camp in Pla Pak district surrendered to police on Friday and claimed he had a personal problem with the victim.
Six policemen, including the former chief of Muang Nakhon Sawan police station, were sentenced to life imprisonment on Wednesday for torturing a drug suspect to death with plastic bags placed over his head.
In 2004, Somchai Neelapaijit, a lawyer and human rights activist, disappeared. He was last seen being dragged out of his car by four men. His whereabouts are unknown to this day. Last year, Jiraphong Thanapat, a drug suspect, died after being tortured at Muang Nakhon Sawan police station. Video evidence showed police suffocating the man with plastic bags until he collapsed and stopped breathing.
The Royal Thai Police Office has pressed four charges against seven policemen, one a station chief, who killed a drug suspect during interrogation in Nakhon Sawan province in August.
