Valiant Second-Half Rally Comes Up A Bit Short in PFL Opener

But a second-half rally came up short as the Eagles fell 31-16 to the Blue Hose at Bailey Memorial Stadium in both team s conference opener. The Eagles got behind 24-3 at the half, but a pair of touchdown connections by junior quarterback Mark Pappas gave the visitors some life. A 50-yard strike to senior transfer receiver BJ Byrd and a 15-yard scoring toss to sophomore slot man Matt Guilfoil, his first career touchdown, accounted for the Eagles second-half points.

Skyelar Potter Tabbed OVC Newcomer of the Week

Morehead State junior guard Skyelar Potter has been voted as the OVC Newcomer of the week. Potter, a transfer from Wright State from Bowling Green, Ky., earned his first-ever OVC weekly award, giving MSU four league honors this season (Johni Broome has three Freshman of the Week accolades). That is the most awards for the program in a single season since Kenneth Faried and Demonte Harper combined for nine in 2010-11. Potter scored a career-high 22 points in the Eagles game at then No. 24 Clemson on Dec. 21. His point total, five three-pointers swished and 7-for-10 field goal percentage are the best for an individual opponent against Clemson this season.
