I think after history at columbia university, and im coming to you from the study and my apartment officer at the university in new york city. It is where i write this is where i work. I do want to point out that the case behind me when i retire from columbia couple of year ago i had about 3,000 books in my office there. I gave the floor away to get back into my apartment here. Except for the books on that bookcase which are most of which are books written by my former about 200 of them. By graduate students undergraduates those are most valuable books to me things of my students have written in front of american history. So anyway, im here to talk about the second founding. My book about the 13, 14th, 15th amendments of the u. S. Constitution which were ratified during the period of reconstruction and immediately after the american civil war. The title of the book actually spleens the argument. The second founding. My argument is that these three amendments created a new constitution
