Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga said the employee, whose identity has not yet been released, was involved in a fatal accident at 11:00 on Friday.
The South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) and contractors, the Concor/MECSA Construction joint venture (CME JV), say a construction worker passed away at the Msikaba Bridge construction site, in Lusikisiki, in the Eastern Cape, on May 5. Sanral and CME JV offered their condolences to the family of the worker, who died after a fatal accident at the site. He worked for one of the subcontractors.

The Minister of Transport, Sindisiwe Chikunga has expressed her devastation at the death of a worker at the Msikaba Bridge who was involved in a fatal accident on 5 May at 11h00, South Main Batch Plant - which is contracted to the Msikaba Bridge build, in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape. "It is with the heaviest of hearts that we learned of the passing of the worker at the Msikaba project. He was one of the unsung heroes who are constantly present in ensuring that the Msikaba Bridge project comes to fruition. “His service to the Eastern Cape people will forever remain an important part of the history of Msikaba bridge,” said Chikunga.
