The day a gun-wielding thief robbed a shop in Darlington

FIVE years ago a gun-wielding masked man tried to rob a lone cashier in a North-East corner shop. Seema Dhutti, 25, bravely fended the would-be robber off at the Darlington store she part-owned, and refused to hand over any cash. She was back at work just hours after the horrifying incident at Seema News and Off-Licence, on the corner of North Road and Cumberland Street, and spoke to The Northern Echo about her ordeal. Mr Roberts-Smith and ex-wife Emma put the Sunshine Coast mansion up for sale last month as they go about their separation. The couple bought the four-bedroom property for $1.45 million in 2015 and had been planning to put it up for auction on December 19. But a pre-auction offer that would see them make more than $550,000 in profit was too much to pass up, with the home put under contract this week. In a statement about the sale of their home, the Victoria Cross recipient and his ex-wife made no mention of their split and instead claimed  change in lifestyle meant the time is right to sell up.
