President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed his “deepest condolences” to the families of the 12 teenagers who lost their lives last Sunday while swimming in the sea in Apam in the Gomoa West District in the Central Region.
He said the sad event, which caught the attention of the entire nation, had been a great source of worry and trying moment for the affected families and all Ghanaians.
The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mrs Mavis Hawa Koomson, who led a delegation yesterday to convey the President’s condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Apam, said: “President Akufo-Addo is deeply worried and concerned about the tragic event which happened a day after the nation celebrated its 64th Independence Day anniversary”.

The Women’s Wing of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Agona West Constituency has lauded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the appointment of Mrs Justina Marigold Assan as the Minister-designate for the Central Region.
According to them, the elevation of Mrs Assan, the Municipal Chief Executive for Agona West, to the high office of Minister-designate was a great honour to the constituency and women across the nation.

Addressing a press conference at Agona Swedru last Tuesday to thank the President for Mrs Assan’s appointment, a polling station women organiser, Ms Barikisu Abdulai, said President Akufo-Addo made the right choice and that Mrs Assan was very competent to occupy her new office if approved by Parliament.

The Minister-designate for Central Region, Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, has promised to pursue aggressive policies and programmes that will create decent jobs, particularly for the youth to reduce poverty among the people.
According to her, despite the many resources and economic potential the region was endowed with, it was very worrying that the region was still referred to as the poorest after the regions in the north.
“Although it will be quite challenging especially where some of the youth may not have the requisite skills to take advantage of the many job opportunities in the formal sector, government together with partners would ensure the decentralisation of job creation to reduce poverty to the barest minimum.”
