Should brown bin charges be part of the council tax payment?
A petition has been launched to urge the Scottish Government to scrap brown bin charges, over and above council tax, in all Scottish local authorities.
Campaigner Yvonne Irving thinks the charges are counter productive when more people are being encouraged to recycle garden waste.

MEASURES to increase the biodiversity at a holiday park near Brampton have been given the go-ahead.
Carlisle City Council has given the go-ahead for the “creation Of two ponds on a degraded wetland for biodiversity benefit” at Cairndale Caravan Park, Heads Nook, Brampton. The application was submitted last week by Mrs Irving fro the caravan park last month. According to the ecological assessment and mitigation submitted to the council by the Eden Rivers Trust, the project would improve because the development would be beneficial to any nearby protected species. It also stated that, in the construction of the ponds, no machinery would go within 10 metres of the river and the spoil would be placed outside the flood zone among other measures.
