In a statement explaining the postponement, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said that it was the desire of prosecutors to push ahead with the trial in August this year. The delay was sanctioned by the Nelspruit Magistrates’ Court, however, due to “the unavailability of some of the defence legal team members”.
The case is a shocking illustration of the potential for corruption around the government’s “willing buyer, willing seller” land reform process.
The events took place while Bongo was head of legal services for the Mpumalanga Department of Human Settlements, and the figure at their heart is attorney Blessing Singwane.

FORMER state security minister Bongani Bongo’s ex-wife Sandile Nkosi appeared briefly in the Nelspruit Magistrates Court on Monday, 8 March on charges of corruption and money laundering.
Nkosi handed herself over to the Hawks earlier on Monday morning and was released on R10 000 bail.
Her case was postponed to 4 May.
She joins Bongo and 10 others over corruption relating to land deals.
Nkosi allegedly received R1 million from Singwane Attorneys after the Mpumalanga Department of Human Settlements paid R52 milion to the law firm without any basis for such payment. She neither had any business dealings with Singwane Attorneys nor was she a client who gave the firm instructions to institute a civil action for claim of any money.
