concrete idea whether they re looking in the right place. but again, you go back and look at what we do know, megyn, for example the plane took off heading towards beijing, which was kind of northeast. we now know that it took a southern turn. and when you take a southern route, particularly in this case it took a southwest route that is consistent with where this debris or potential debris was spotted. so that is encouraging from that standpoint. but again, that is just one more situation that has to be checked out thoroughly. and we shouldn t get our hopes up over this being debris. but it is going to be so difficult to find, even the equipment we got, the p 8, the p 3s, they re magnificent weapons systems, one source told me you can spot a beer can under water. so if it is there i think ultimately we ll find it. thank you, sir.
in the hay stack out there, isn t it? it is. we are looking at a search area that s somewhere over 200,000 square miles. a lot of area to cover. do you have any help? any other nations have anything akin to the p 8 out there looking? absolutely, ma am, the australians have two of their p-3s out here and new zealand has p 3, ac 30 in addition to a whole host of other nations providing assistance. right now the weather is holding and for the rest of the day, you are expecting good weather because i know it s really lousy weather a little while ago. yes, ma am. yesterday we struggled with low ceilings, today we are expecting good weather. i talked with the folks at the australian rescue center. they are predicting ceilings 1,000 to 1500 feet good opportunity today. lt. commander, good luck, thank you, sir.

tony nap beach college of aviation. from your perspective, assuming that nothing is found there, assuming that they can t find anything on the p 3s or the p 8s that could give them an indication of what was seen to on that satellite, where do they take it from there? if you go back to the beginning of this event, we ve been trying to get the search area. last week it was basically a 360 dooeg type. over the weekend, it kind i have allowed us to narrow the search area a tribute. if this light isn t anything connected, i m sure the engineers at the national safety board basically go back to look at more evidence and come up with another search area that might turn up more evidence. and in a very real sense, the clock is ticking because some of
a.m. and one at 8:00 a.m. they have been talking about how difficult this area is to get there, 4 1/2 hours down there and only two hours to circle before they have to return. the weather down there considerably better but here it s going to be tough as far as them taking off on time, wolf. you think the p-3s that the u.s. and australians and others have, it s a bigger version of those surveillance, that they will be be able to take off? because you re absolutely right, the weather looks pretty awful where you are. reporter: yeah, pretty awful might be a bit of an understatement right now. the storm that has come in is very, very bad. when i spoke to the pio, it was right before all of this weather started and he seemed very, very confident, the officers were here, they had been briefed. they ve been here for several hours and they were ready to take off. they felt pretty confident back then but this weather is pretty bad. we ll have to check in with them
