In urban areas in Africa, many sanitation utilities struggle to implement and sustain toilet construction projects after the initial source of financing has ended. As part of the World Bank's Citywide Inclusive Sanitation initiative, projects in Malawi, Zambia, and soon, Mozambique, are proving that with the right set of interventions and a progressive framework for public financing, African cities can overcome the urban sanitation challenge.
