Six villagers from Assam’s Golaghat district died when a fire broke out in an illegal mine. The failure of rains pushed them to take up the hazardous work.
Wokha police on Friday filed a suo moto case following the tragic death of six coal mine workers at a colliery in Ruchayan village under Bhandari sub-division, Wokha district on January 25. Police suspected that the fire and explosion might have been caused due to short circuit as the miners were using rock breakers inside the rat hole mine. Four other labourers were also seriously injured in the incident.
