COLUMBUS, Ohio – The University of New Mexico women’s golf team shot the best of its three rounds Wednesday, but finished tied for 15th place at the 18-team NCAA Columbus Regional. UNM posted an 8-over-par 296 in round three and 52-over-par for the tournament. Georgia, at 1-over the runaway winner by 15 shots, advances to the final round along with Duke, Arizona State, Kentucky, Michigan and Kent State. Senior Caroline Jansson turned in a par-72 performance in round three to shoot up 23 spots on the leaderboard after shooting 79 and 78 in her first two rounds. Her final score of 13-over 229 tied for 45th overall.

COLUMBUS, Ohio The University of New Mexico women’s golf team wrapped up its historic 2021 season on Wednesday at the 2021 NCAA Columbus Regional. The Lobos finished tied for 15th place, shooting their best round on the final day of competition. UNM posted a score of 296 in round three, just one shot over second-place Duke’s round-three score, and two under Duke’s second-round score. The Lobos chopped 14 strokes off of their first two rounds to finish +8 on the day, +52 overall. Georgia, Duke, Arizona State, Kentucky, Michigan and Kent State will be advancing to the next round of competition as the top six squads in the regional.

Two Lobos also named All-Mountain West Second Team

Trujillo Named Coach of the Year; McDonald Freshman of the Year COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. After claiming the Mountain West Women’s Golf Championship title, the Lobos are racking up the conference honors. Head coach Jill Trujillo has been named MW Coach of the Year while freshman Myah McDonald has been tabbed MW Freshman of the Year, the league announced Thursday. In addition, two Lobos were named to the All-MW Second Team as sophomores Napat “Jenny” Lertsadwattana and Lauren Lehigh both made the list. New Mexico posts the most members to the All-Conference list this year (4) of any other team. This marks the second straight season that the Lobos have taken the Freshman of the Year honor as Lertsadwattana earned the accolade in 2020. This season also marks the second that Lertsadwattana has been named to the All-MW Second Team.
