A restaurateur whose name is synonymous with the unique fare and atmosphere he offered. These are among the notable suburbanites from Cook County and Lake County who passed in 2022.
During her many years serving on the Mount Prospect village board and various commissions, Michaele Skowron demonstrated her devotion to public service. Skowron, who lived in Mount Prospect for 47 years before moving to Des Plaines, died Thursday at age 79.

Northwest suburban voters overwhelmingly answered yes to all the referendum questions that appeared on ballots last week, unofficial results indicate, but the jury is still out on the fate of write-in candidates in Des Plaines and Mount Prospect.

Amid the heated debates in recent months over school reopenings, some Northwest suburban school districts are seeing larger-than-usual fields of candidates who intend to run for their local school boards in April.
More than 480 school board candidates submitted paperwork on the first official filing day Monday across four locations set up by the Cook County clerk s office. That included 140 candidates who stood in line to hand in their petitions at Old Orchard Country Club in Mount Prospect.

With the days before winter break missing the usual excitement of concerts, school assemblies and celebrations, teachers at Fairview School in Mount Prospect Elementary District 57 came up with a substitute: Winter Story Windows.
Large, colorful images that tell the story of the classic children s book The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats will adorn the school s windows in the 300 block of North Fairview Avenue from Monday, Dec. 14, through Monday, Jan. 4.
