Hundreds of inhabitants on the Spanish island of La Palma awoke Wednesday, fearful for their homes and belongings, after a new torrent of magma from an erupting volcano threatened to swallow another community on its route to the Atlantic Ocean.
What residents should know is that when it does end, the government of Spain will be there to tackle the enormous task of rebuilding La Palma, said Sanchez, promising £176m of funding.
The new fissures, about 50 feet apart, sent streaks of fiery lava down the side of La Palma, running parallel to the earlier lava flow that forced evacuations and reached the ocean on Tuesday.
As the lava from the volcano hardens when it comes into contact with water, the Spanish Canary Island found to the north-west of Africa is continuing to expand, scientists said earlier.
