Area residents will join with others across the nation celebrating the United States’ 245th anniversary, yet for some it may feel almost new.
That is because last year’s Independence Day celebration along with just about every other public gathering in 2020 and the early part of this year was cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year, though, area officials plan a full July 4th celebration.
In Mount Airy, that gets underway around 12:30 p.m. Sunday when members of the local drama troupe the NoneSuch Playmakers, will be reading the Declaration of Independence while dressed in colonial-era garb, in the courtyard of the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History.
