THE latest available government data reveals that the number of new coronavirus cases in Swindon s hardest-hit area is more than four times that of the place with the fewest new cases. In the seven days leading up to December 28, 46 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in the Wroughton, Wichelstowe and Chiseldon ward while only 11 were confirmed in Walcot East. There is a similar gap between the highest rolling seven-day case rate in the borough and the lowest - Haydon Wick had 541.4 cases per 100,000 people and there were 135 cases per 100k population in Mouldon Hill and Oakhurst. In Outer Royal Wootton Bassett and Lyneham, the number of new cases jumped by a whopping 300 per cent to 36 in the week ending December 28, compared to just 9 the week before.
