Wilson Garden’s burial ground for Muslims, has filed a complaint of assault and extortion against a group of people who allegedly demanded Rs 1,000 per burial or Rs 10,000 per month from him.
The grave-digger, Syed Firdouz, his wife, and their six children have been living at the Bada Makaan graveyard and burying the dead for decades. Syed Gafar, Firdouz’s father also used to work there. “We used to get a dead body once in a week or every 10 days before the pandemic but now we get at least one or two bodies daily due to covid,” Firdouz told BM.
