Rounding off the month of Ramadan which is observed by the Muslims every year to acknowledge Allah’s revelation of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad, Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated.
Eid comes after the holy month of Ramadan, when many Muslims will not eat or drink during the daytime for a 29- or 30-day period. It’s part of Sawm (fasting) commitment, one of the five pillars of Islam.
Releasing a statement for this Eid, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa offered his best wishes with the expectation that all those virtuous wishes may come true.

Armstrong Bakam, Bauchi
A fatal crash at the Tirwun suburb of Bauchi, about three kilometres to the state capital, has claimed the lives of 20 persons, who were burnt beyond recognition.
Our correspondent learnt that the crash involved two vehicles.
It was gathered that only two females survived without the accident out of the 22 passengers in the two vehicles.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the crash in a telephone interview with
PUNCH Metro.
He said the accident involved a Borno Express Mass Transit bus, which had a head-on collision with a Golf car.
