The honorable Hakeem Jeffries of the state of new york has received 212. John boehner of The State Of Ohio Has received one. Look at that smile. Its going about that way. Democrats totally united while republicans are Casting Protest Votes with the speaker. And tonight, the nomination of the unqualified jim jordan is circling the drain. My friend and colleague Rachel Maddow joins me right here on that embarrassing spectacle. Her new book, prequel, American Fight Against Fascism and so much more. But we begin tonight with the profound difference between the normal way of becoming House Speaker and what jim jordan is doing. Using maga tactics to threaten his way into the speakers office. It has been 15 days since Kevin Mccarthy was deposed by his partys maga wing and jim jordan is still trying to fill his tiny, tiny little shoes. To quote Stormy Daniels, when somebody attacks me, im going to defend myself. Those were some of the final words from the Adult Film Star before she was excused from the stand in Donald Trumps Hush Money Trial. It is good to be back with you. Im chris jansing, alongside my colleague, andrea mitchell. Defense lawyer suggested she was trying to extort him, and capitalizing on his fame with merchandise, prosecutors for their part pointing out that daniels was the target of nasty, threatening tweets for even coming forward about an alleged affair with donald trump. They asked daniels been telling the truth net positive or net negative in your life. Daniels response, negative. The people call Stormy Daniels. Those five words kicking off an almost unreal scene and some detailed and salacious testimony thats been unfolding today in a manhattan courtroom. The trial now on lunch break with the former adult film actress on the stand. Stormy daniels facetoface with donald trump describing their alleged sexual encounter, a story so explosive she said she felt it put her life in danger appearing nervous and speaking so quickly the judge at multiple points asked her to slow down. Daniels gave a detailed Borderline Graphic Account of what happened saying that after it was over, quote, i left as fast as i could. Just like so much of this trial, its the stuff of tabloids, its embarrassing, potentially even humiliating for the former president and according to our team in court, it kept the jury happening on every word but does any of it prove he broke the law . Im Chris Jansing live at msnbc headquarters in New York City. Back with me is duncan levin, former senior staf
i was so struck seeing jimmy carter wheeled in and seeing him there to say good-bye to the love of his life. well, and jimmy carter s been trying to stay alive to take care of her. to be a caretaker. when you have dementia, you forget things and he s been fighting for his own life, really trying to outlive her trying to take care of her. he s greatly diminished. i always hoped he would make it to his 100th birthday, which would be october 21st, 2024. it s going to be hard living without her. he can barely remember his life when she wasn t at his side. what did you make of the tributes pouring in today and just the memories from her loved ones? you know, they used to have the nickname, the steel magnolia. i got to know her quite well and didn t know the steely side. she was very protective of their family and legacy, but she was a real community spirited person. it does come out of her christian faith. she was the ultimate good samaritan. but her love of people and life
