Burial ground memorial site agreed with HSE as county archive talks progress - Mother and Baby Homes Report

Kilkenny County Council have issued a formal apology to the victims and survivors of Thomastown County Home and have proposed a remembrance memorial be built on the site.
Kilkenny County Council Chairman Andrew McGuinness issued the apology at Monday’s meeting of Kilkenny County Council and confirmed that prior agreement for the location of the memorial at the former Mother and Baby Home has been obtained from the HSE.
“We welcome further contributions and suggestions from survivors,” he said, after delivering the formal apology.

I welcome the publication of the report into the Mother and Baby Homes, Archbishop-elect Farrell stated. This report, and those like it, which explore our painful past make for extremely disturbing reading. They reveal deep wounds, and bring to light the profound injustices perpetrated against the vulnerable in our society over a long period of time – against women and children whose lives were regarded as less important than the lives of others.

TAOISEACH MICHEÁL MARTIN has said that religious organisations should make an apology to survivors of mother and baby homes and should also “make a contribution” towards a redress scheme.
Speaking this afternoon following the publication of the long-awaited final report of the Mother and Baby Homes Commission, Martin said it “opens a window into a deeply misogynistic culture in Ireland” and sheds light on a “dark, difficult and shameful chapter”.
