FORMER ruling All Basotho Convention (ABC) deputy Nqosa Mahao’s plans to push a successful no confidence vote against the Moeketsi Majoro-led governing coalition appear dead in the water at least for now.
This after only nine legislators dumped the ABC to join his newly formed Basotho Action Party (BAP). The nine who have publicly joined the BAP are Mphosong MP Libe Motšoane, Sotlehang Sekhamane (Maputsoe constituency), Fako Moshoeshoe (Mabote), ‘Mamoipone Senauoane (Thaba-Tseka), Motlatsi Maqelepo (Berea), Mphosi Nkhasi (Pela-Tšoeu), Nto Moakhi (Malibamatšo), Tello Kibane (Peka) and Motebang Koma (Koro-Koro).

LESGISLATORS Mokherane Tsatsanyane (Stadium Area constituency) and Mothepu Mahapa (Tele) have again jumped ship, this time ditching the opposition Alliance of Democrats (AD) for Deputy Prime Minister Mathibeli Mokhothu’s Democratic Congress (DC).
Were it not for the destabilising effects on government stability and service delivery to the long-suffering nation, analysts say Messrs Tsatsanyane, Mahapa and others’ habitual floor crossing antics would be a benign source of bar jokes about selfish politicians who jump to which ever party appears to be in the ascendancy.

Massive boost for DC
‘Marafaele Mohloboli
TWO opposition Alliance of Democrats (AD) legislators, Mothepu Mahapa and Mokherane Tsatsanyane, have ditched the Monyane Moleleki-led party to join Deputy Prime Minister Mathibeli Mokhothu’s Democratic Congress (DC).
Their defections were announced yesterday in parliament by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Sephiri Motanyane.
The announcement was greeted with loud cheers by some DC backbenchers. Thereafter, Messrs Mahapa and Tsatsanyane visited the DC party offices where they were given membership forms and party cards.
The defections also enabled the DC to finally get revenge on the AD, a party which was formed in December 2016 by former DC deputy leader Monyane Moleleki and a faction which had supported his failed bid to succeed then DC leader and Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili.
