Chilli Farming in Brahmaputra Basin: Even 15-20 years ago, the grazing areas in the Brahmaputra basin did not produce any cash crops that producers could talk about proudly. Now the sandy land has turned out a boon for farmers as they have gone for growing chillies as the first cash crop of the vast shoal area.
Over the years, these trees have turned into a sanctuary where birds, including the vibrant purple color sunbird and purple-rumped sunbird, adorn the area when the flowers bloom.
These villages are well-known for carrot cultivation, with a daily supply of around 2,000 maunds of the winter vegetable going to Dhaka, Tangail, and other districts for the past 14-15 years.
