Blegacy Farms Owner Alex Wright Talks About Community Ownership
As we all witnessed at the beginning of the pandemic, food shortages are a real thing, even in the United States of America. That s why it s refreshing to know that Buffalo community leader and food activist, Alex Wright, has taken another step in making farm-fresh food available to people in food deserts. Alex, who is the founder and owner of the African Heritage Food Co-op has opened Blegacy Farms in Franklinville, NY. The farm is 22-acres and offers people in Buffalo the opportunity to become farmers. You can rent-to-own a 10,000 square foot plot. In our interview, Alex said the price is 50 cents per square foot, so the price tag for the whole plot is $5,000. After 5 years of leasing, you can buy the land.
