The House voted 222-190 in favor of a resolution introduced by Speaker Nancy Pelosi to create a new select committee to investigate the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection at the US Capitol. Only two Republicans joined Democrats on the vote.
Pelosi chose to go this route after Senate Republicans blocked legislation last month to create an independent, bipartisan commission to probe the riot.
The select committee will be run by House Democrats, have subpoena power and will not be given a strict deadline to finish its work.
