Alaska river systems are breaking up with all the ice from the past winter! The movement of ice has resulted in flood warnings and watches in parts of Interior Alaska. In Southcentral and many other parts of the state, Mother's Day on Sunday is likely to be pleasant.
May temperatures are warming, and river systems across Alaska are letting go of ice. River-based communities should be on watch as ice breaks up and starts moving downstream. Wet weather will still remain in the forecast through the end of the week.
