Supreme Court refuses to review Navalny s sentence over school caterer case - Society & Culture

Earlier, the Arbitration Court ruled the sentence legitimate and it entered force. On February 2019, Navalny’s YouTube channel published a video, in which the school caterer’s former employee criticized the enterprise s operation. According to the woman, it shipped expired products to schools. After that, the school caterer filed a lawsuit with the Moscow Arbitration Court, seeking compensation of 1.5 billion rubles ($19 million) from Navalny, Sobol and the Anti-Corruption Foundation for both the lost profit and reputational damage. Earlier, the court ordered Navalny to pay 29.2 million rubles ($384,000) as compensation of moral damage and 18,000 rubles ($237) of state fee. Lyubov Sobol and the Anti-Corruption Foundation were ordered to pay the same amount of money, pushing the total amount to about 88 million rubles ($1.2 million).

12:58 17/12/2020 MOSCOW, December 17 (RAPSI) - A foundation established by Alexey Navalny, the blogger himself and his associate Lyubov Sobol have challenged in the Supreme Court an 88 million-ruble ($1.4 million) against them in a dispute with a school catering company, according to court records. They have filed appeals against the Moscow Commercial Court’s ruling of December 2019 as well as appeal and cassation instances’ rulings of March and October 2020. In late 2019, the Moscow Commercial Court issued its ruling in favor of Moskovsky Shkolnik. Navalny was also ordered to retract and remove certain incorrect information from his YouTube channel. In March, appeals filed by Navalny and Sobol against the ruling were dismissed.
