Cecilia Bartoli: A new artistic direction for the Opera de Monte-Carlo

Cecilia Bartoli and the Opéra de Monte-Carlo have a long-lasting love affair. Together they recently mesmerised audiences in the Garnier Hall with Rossini s final comic opera, “Le Comte Ory”. Bartoli s busy schedule includes stage performances, pulling the strings behind the scenes and now preparing for a new role. In 2023, the legendary mezzo-soprano will become the Opera de Monte-Carlo s new artistic director, the first woman to have this honour. On stage at the Opéra de Monte-CarloCecilia Bartoli Jean-Louis Grinda is the current director of the Opera de Monte-Carlo. He describes Bartoli as a legend . They re appointing a woman who is extraordinarily skilled, an artist who has left her mark on the history of the opera .

With a small cast and no large choir, the ensemble has arranged 30 arias, recitatives, choruses, and chorales from Bach s masterpiece in its own version. From Suzanne’s first note to us: I was wrapping Hanukkah presents early this morning to mail to Calif. (as is my custom), and I put on a mix of five of Will’s music CDs to get me in the mood (as is also my custom). As I was listening and wrapping, I realized this was a GREAT mix(!) and thought I wish there was some way I could share this with other Sitkans. These are the five CDs (which range, loosely speaking, from the sacred to the profane):
