Israeli pediatricians back vaccinating under-16s when Pfizer gets go-ahead

(Chen Leopold/Flash90) The Israeli Pediatric Association on Tuesday published a call for parents and family doctors to vaccinate their children when the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is approved for those under 16 years old. The association said it was waiting for regulators to approve the shot. On Friday Pfizer-BioNTech asked for authorization to use its COVID-19 vaccine on 12- to 15-year-olds in the United States. The letter said the vaccine was safe and effective for children and would help drive down virus rates in the country.

Winter carved country into two regions: Above-average rain, and drought

An imaginary boundary ran east-west across the Beit Kama Junction, located more or less equidistant between the southern cities of Kiryat Gat and Beersheba. Kiryat Gat saw 443 millimeters (17.4 inches) of rain, 104 percent of its usual annual average from December 1 to February 28, while Beersheba, just 55 kilometers (34 miles) to the south, experienced just 107 mm (4.2 inches), a quarter of Kiryat Gat’s and just over half (56%) of its annual average.

(Chen Leopold/Flash90) The coronavirus outbreak caused an acceleration in the digitalization of Israeli life last year as the virus prompted lockdowns that led to an increase in online activities for work, study and play, according to a report from national phone company Bezeq released Wednesday. Among trends identified were an increase in video-streaming, along with greater comfort in using online services for bureaucracy and daily tasks. The 2020 annual report, which also included a survey of internet use among a representative sample of the population, found that there are 6.7 million people online in the country, representing about 76 percent of households.

Netanyahu doesn t rule out adding an Arab candidate to Likud list

3 shares Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visits a vaccination center in the Arab Israeli city of Tira, amid speculation he could place an Arab lawmaker on his Likud list ahead of the March 23 elections. According to Channel 12, asked about the possible placement of an Arab lawmaker on his right-wing list, Netanyahu tells a reporter, “I don’t rule that out. I’ll sort out my issues with the Likud election committee and we’ll see.” Netanyahu’s Likud has campaigned in the past on unfounded claims of electoral fraud in Arab communities. But the prime minister has in recent months formed a quiet alliance with the Joint List’s Mansour Abbas.
