Speaking on the KFM Hot seat last night, the associate director of Great Lakes Institute for Strategic studies Godber Tumushabe proposes that the President announces a totally new and reduced cabinet of not more than 20 ministers, cement the merging of administrative units and also reduce the size of parliament.
Tumushabe however says for Museveni to secure the future of Uganda, he should push for a national dialogue.
However speaking on the same show, Moses Byaruhanga, an advisor to President Museveni says, Europeanising cabinet and parliament organisation is not representative and possible in Uganda.
He further defends the big entities saying they have done more good than harm.
Mother whose son was shot in mouth & killed in Nov riots sues govt
April 20, 2021 Hajara Nakitto at the High court
Hajara Nakitto, the mother whose 15-year-old son was shot and killed during the November 2020 riots has sued the government, seeking compensation for the loss.
Her son, Amos Ssegawa was shot dead on November 19, 2020, as the police and army violently quelled protests that followed the arrest of then-presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu during a campaign rally in Luuka district. It was reported that up to 54 lives were lost in the protests during the two-day protests that started on November 18.
In the aftermath, President Yoweri Museveni said that the government would compensate all families of those who were killed during the city protests once it was proved that they were not rioting. According to Museveni, among those killed, 32 were rioters and 22 were victims.
But a brave face of those calling the shots – and pushing him forward. We need to believe Mr Museveni when he tells us he doesn’t want to be in power. He has had a good life – and would undoubtedly enjoy a good one if he peacefully left office.
There is no reason why after 35 years in power, at 76, one still braves the stresses and insults that come with the presidency. I am getting convinced Museveni is not as obsessed with the presidency as he is made to appear. In truth, Museveni too, needs liberation from those clearly pumping up his ego to appear he is greedy for power.
