ABB calls for faster adoption of high-efficiency motors and variable speed drives

ABB calls for faster adoption of high-efficiency motors and variable speed drives 05 March 2021 ABB has released a white paper Achieving the Paris Agreement: The Vital Role of High-Efficiency Motors and Drives in Reducing Energy Consumption that reveals the potential for significant energy efficiency improvements in industry and infrastructure enabled by the latest and most high-efficiency motors and variable speed drives. ABB is calling on governments and industry to accelerate adoption of the technology to help combat climate change. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), industry accounts for 37 per cent of global energy use and some 30 per cent of global energy is consumed in buildings. Motor and drive technologies have seen exceptionally rapid advancement in the past decade, with today’s innovative designs delivering remarkable energy efficiencies. However, a significant number of industrial electric motor-driven systems in operation today –

ABB urges for greater adoption of high-efficiency motors and drives to combat climate change

In a new whitepaper, "ABB reveals potential for significant energy efficiency improvements in industry and infrastructure enabled by the latest and most high-efficiency motors and variable speed drives. ABB calls on governments and industry to accelerate adoption of the technology to help combat climate change", a statement said.

Efficient motors and drives could hit 40% of Paris climate goals - Drives and Controls Magazine

Efficient motors and drives ‘could hit 40% of Paris climate goals’ 02 March, 2021 ABB has published a White Paper arguing that high-efficiency motors and VSDs (variable-speed drives) could by themselves achieve more than 40% of the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions needed to meet the 2040 goals established by the Paris climate agreement. It calls on governments and industry around the world to accelerate the adoption of these technologies to help combat climate change. The paper – called If these systems were replaced by optimised, high-efficiency equipment, the world s electricity consumption could be cut by up to 10%, it calculates. This, in turn, would account for more than 40% of the reductions in emissions needed to hit the 2040 goals set out in the Paris Agreement.
