Senators, Jewish groups question Pakistani-born Biden administration nominee for business
They say positions of the Muslim American political action organization Emgage, where Dilawar Syed served on the board, are anti-Israel.
(July 9, 2021 / JNS) A Biden administration nominee for deputy administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA) has become the focus of controversy as U.S. senators and Jewish groups debate whether his membership in an organization critical of Israel should play a factor in his nomination.
Eight Republican senators, led by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) wrote a letter on June 30 to Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Ben Cardin (D-Md.) asking for the committee to hold another hearing to consider entrepreneur and businessman Dilawar Syed for the post.
