MORRISTOWN Town officials broke ground Friday on a project that will transform an empty lot off Speedwell Avenue into a public park.
Less than an acre wide, the $818,049 park referred to as Open Space at Speedwell, is part of the town s Speedwell Avenue Redevelopment Project and sits next to the new Modera 44 and Modera 55 apartments. Town officials said the park will be completed by August. The Open Space at Speedwell will turn a sore, empty lot at one of our major
intersections into a beautiful, welcoming community center for all Morristown residents to enjoy, said Mayor Tim Dougherty.
The groundbreaking comes five years after the plan was introduced to town officials. Morristown and Modera Apartments developer Mill Creek Residential agreed to split the park’s cost along with funding from the town s park capital funding. Town business administrator Jillian Barrick said construction on the park will begin Monday.
